How I’m Getting Ready for My Best Fall Ever — As a 44-Year-Old Toddler Mom

By Jacey Lambros-Carrino

Every year, once Labor Day passes—and especially now with Leni heading to Pre-K—I treat myself to a mini reset. It feels a bit like a second New Year’s resolution, but with the crispness of Fall in the air and a renewed sense of purpose. This is my time to say goodbye to summer shenanigans and lean into routines that help me feel my best. If you’re ready to make this your best Fall yet, here are a few things I’m loving and learning—maybe they’ll inspire your own reset, too!

Fall is for changing things up, so this year I’m officially adding creatine to my supplement routine. You might know creatine as something only weightlifters or athletes use, but more and more women—especially those in their 40s—are adding it to their routines for everyday support. For me, creatine is about more than muscle: it helps support strength, muscle health, and recovery, which are all things I notice become a little more important (and a little more challenging) as I keep up with both my toddler and my workout routines. There’s even emerging research that creatine may support cognitive function, energy levels, and healthy aging—an empowering upgrade for any busy mom looking for a functional boost. This small switch genuinely feels like an investment in my well-being, especially as I focus on building habits that honor my strength inside and out.

With weekends always jam-packed, I can’t always get to Jane DO classes on Saturdays and Sundays. To keep moving, I’ve started walking to the Hoboken studio four days a week—racking up almost 3 miles a day. Don’t underestimate the power of daily steps! The fresh air, alone time, and consistent movement have been life-changing, and I count those miles as my “extra oomf” when I miss class. And I can’t wait to keep this up in the Fall.

To avoid those last-minute Starbucks runs (even though those egg whites are tempting), I prep my breakfasts and snacks ahead of time. Having something healthy and homemade ready to grab makes it so much easier to stay on track—especially during the school morning rush.

I’ve traded my summer rosé for kombucha in the evening. Not only does it help me wind down without the sugar crash, but I feel so much better the next day. It’s a small swap that keeps my goals realistic and my energy up—even when a glass of wine is calling my name after a long day.

Just because summer is over doesn’t mean grilling season is gone! I’m determined to keep grilling all through September and even into November. Grilling makes healthy eating delicious and effortless—the cleanup is a breeze, too.
