A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT YOU.
From Toronto to NY to Vegas then LA and now back to NY... I mean Jersey.☺ My claim to fame movie credits include Chicago, The Music Man with Mathew Broderick and Hairspray. TV fun includes Blood Relatives, Dancing with Stars, So You Think You Can Dance. My agents loved me for all the commercials I booked including Target, Dyson, Panera Bread, Bose, Payless Shoes, Audi, Mercedez Benz, Bosche Tools and more. My favorite performance experience is dancing the Flamenco and Salsa for the one and only CHARO. Oh, and of course playing Tina in Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding. Choreographing and teaching are strong passions of mine along with sipping Starbucks and shopping on Amazon Prime, hehe.
OUT OF ALL THE CHANGES LIFE HAS THROWN AT YOU, WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING?"
Where do I start? A working professional dancer, pregnant in my (late) thirties, the shift in friendships and support, moving across country, the uncertainty, the doubt, the JOY, the EXCITEMENT, your finances, the discomfort, giving birth, breastfeeding, everyone’s opinions, hemroids, saggy boobs, your vagina, varicose veins, spots or moles you’ve never seen before (and the dermatologist insists these go away in time) hair loss, umbilical hernia, sleepless nights, sleepless days, weight gain, weight loss, weight gain again, never ever ever having a moment alone even when you hide in the bathroom to check your Facebook just so you can zone out for 5 minutes...things that NO ONE can prepare you for! ALL of this is 150 million % worth it. BUT one of the biggest challenges is figuring out where I fit into all this!! I’m not sure if I was ready to retire from my acting and dancing career. Who knows maybe I’m not completely done yet, but for now, focusing on my family, my small business and ME is where it’s at. Everything has changed but I feel more me than I’ve ever been.
TELL US YOUR MOST REWARDING CHANGE.
Besides the obvious Noah, my new Love love love for Jersey. I resisted leaving Manhattan. I mean an apartment in Harlem with 2 dogs and a baby for a house in Rutherford with a yard, YES I still resisted. But now that I’m here I’ve really found a calm and peace I’ve never experienced before. Maybe it’s the timing, maybe it’s the opportunities that have presented itself and maybe we were just ready. I needed this! A place to call home. Do you know I’ve been to the beach more this summer than when I lived in Cali!!?
TELL US ABOUT BEING A MOM TRANSITIONING BACK INTO WORK.
For the moms out there, feel confident and strong with your decision. We as new moms can feel so drained and our days can easily become just about surviving, know it’s temporary!! I didn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel for a long time. Yes, my heart was so full from the joys of motherhood but there was/is always this little nudge that reminds us that we are human and need to take care of ourselves and that might mean joining the work force again - guilt free!! Have a plan, commit to it and most importantly make sure it’s a long term plan that highlights your goals, your growth, your dreams!
FOR ALL THE MOMS GETTING BACK INTO SHAPE...
This is so much easier said than done! I remember while pregnant, I would spend hours pinning all the workouts I was going to accomplish after giving birth. Bwahahahahahaha! Completely unrealistic! Those first few months are just a daze. My personal advice is EAT RIGHT. Be gentle and kind to yourself. Stay positive. Stop yourself from standing in front of the mirror and saying negative things to yourself. Remember it’s temporary because you are strong and capable and will feel like yourself again in no time. I promise! And most importantly remember that babies LOVE to move. Keep moving! You’re tired and all you can think about is what if I just close my eyes for the next 18 years, but keep moving. Walking, jogging, doing push ups and sit ups with your little homie, they LOVE it. AND GET OUT if you can, get out and go to class. For you, for your baby, for your sanity, for the well being of the world, let that mama go to class.
